Here we have my 2016 driving experiences.

One of these, because it’s mine: 2.0 V6 FTO

Kinja'd!!!

My father’s 2016 1.5 D Focus. Yes, diesel Foci are a thing. More of a thing than those with spark plugs here in fact.

Kinja'd!!!

My mother’s 1.2 Nissan Micra. Not this exact one though. Yes, it’s possible to drive a car with a 1.2 engine. It’s a suburban shopping trip car, mostly. If anything bigger were offered it wouldn’t get any takers.

Kinja'd!!!

Mr Sicily by Car’s 1.6 D Citroen C3 Picasso with six speed automated manual Which was fine.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

So there we go. Just four I’m afraid.

The displacement of all those cars’ engines put together is just 0.1L larger than one car I drove last year:

Trust me, if you had to pay our annual road tax, insurance and fuel (or the Italian equivalents in the case of the Citroen) you wouldn’t have a car like that!

Most people learn to drive in something like that Micra.

Even having 1.4 litres for a first car is considered big, I’m serious here.

You beat me. The only 2 cars I drove in 2016 were a 2001 Subaru Outback with an Auto and a 2004 Mini Cooper with a 5 speed.

Oh, I believe you.

My first car had a 4.0L V6.

It is insane how much more cars cost over there.

On the bright side, the cars themselves are cheap (in the UK at least because RHD) and the insurance costs becomes (a bit) more reasonable once you get older. Oh, and no pesky 25 year rule, that’s a decent trade-off I guess.

You do seem to have some really cheap used cars over there, new cars seem to me more though.

And that’s just the start. A novice driver insuring a Fiesta or equivalent in his own name would be paying something like €4,000 for insurance where I am. (S)he wouldn’t be quoted for anything much bigger.

That’s insane, I got my M3 at 24 and it cost me at the time like 1100 for the whole year.

I just realized the Nissan Micra has a Bangle butt.
